Computer Network Design and Administration

Are you interested in technology and how it can be applied to build connections between people in different places? Network design and administration could be the right career for you.

In this program, you'll develop the critical thinking skills and knowledge needed to create and maintain computer networks. You’ll practice optimization, troubleshooting, and using different operating systems and hardware such as Microsoft, CISCO, or LINUX/UNIX.

Whether you want to work as a network administrator, engineer, analyst, or technician, this program prepares you to join a growing technological industry.

  1. OS installation and configuration.
  2. Create, modify and manage files and directories.
  3. Exploring the files system by viewing files and directories, displaying the contents of text files, searching for text in wiles with grep, and editing text files.
  4. Manage and administrate the file system including working with device files, partitioning and formatting hardisk’s including LVMs, and disk quotas.
  5. Perform system initialization including Grub boot loader, Sys V and Systemd initialization processes, and X Windows.
  6. Working with the BASH shell including pipes and redirection, shell variables and shell scripts.
  7. Manage processes including viewing, stopping, starting and termination of processes, foreground and background processes, and scheduling with atd and cron.
  8. Manage programs and packages covering compression, system backup and software installations.
  9. Installation and configuration of basic servers.
  10. Troubleshoot system issues and monitor performance.

The Linux/Unix certificate prepares students for the latest CompTIA Linux+ and the LPIC-1 certification exams. This will be an interactive hands-on course. Students will have access to their own dedicated Linux system on which to learn and explore. Successful completion of the certificate provides students with the essential skills needed for Linux systems administration including filesystem administration, working with the BASH shell, system initialization, process management, managing programs and packages, server deployment, and Network Configuration.
